loose diamonds

I am planning to buy a loose diamonds from ebay but I am not sure anymore after I heard that some sellers are selling fake gold and diamond or any item. A friend of mine bought a necklace though it was expensive. She taught the gold was real and genuine but after she went to the jewelry center to appraise it, they said the gold isn’t real.
